I blinked at him, not sure what to say, but I leaned back enough so that I wasn't pressing a gun into his chest. I turned toward the door and the other room. He put one of his arms across that spill of leg, and the other arm held the jacket tight around me. It took me two tries to stop my teeth from chattering long enough to say, Sure.
I've got to go. And that kind of stupid could get me killed. It was more my arms and leg that held him pressed to me. Something about his face, his silence, reached the vampires.
